LOAN WATCH #14

The Bib Theorists

Scott Taylor gives us a brief round up of the performances of some of the Liverpool players currently out on loan.

In what was a good week for Jordon Ibe, Conor Coady and Jakub Sokolik, Scott goes through ten players and their teams.

Conor Coady

Liverpool youngster Conor Coady played the full 90 minutes as Sheffield United’s winning run came to an end at home to top of the table Wolves. With the 2-0 defeat, Nigel Clough’s men drop to 11th in League One but were back in action days later when they travelled to Crawley Town. Coady was phenomenal and scored a brace in the 2-0 victory. He played all 90 minutes yet again as a goal either side of half-time was enough to give the Blades their 11th win in 12 games. Sheffield United next travel to Swindon and Coady will more than likely play another 90 minutes if he is not injured during the match.

Michael Ngoo

On loan forward Michael Ngoo didn’t feature for the first time for Walsall, as they picked up an unlikely point against promotion chasing Leyton Orient. The Saddlers then played, and beat, Bradford City in midweek. Ngoo again didn’t feature from the bench. The 9th placed side next play Shrewsbury at home on Saturday and it looks unlikely Ngoo will start.

Jakub Sokolik

Jakub Sokolik has been enjoying a very good spell for his loan side Southend United. Since he’s been with the League Two outfit, they have not conceded any goals, and this remarkable run continued with a 0-0 draw away to Bristol Rovers. Sokolik and his Southend team-mates were back in action three days later when they hosted 6th placed Oxford United in a tough game, and as presumed Southend kept yet another clean sheet as they ran away 3-0 winners. 8th placed Southend’s next game sees them play Torquay and it’s quite possible that the 20 year old will start and that Southend will keep another clean sheet.

Jack Robinson

20 year old left back played the full 90 minutes for loan side Blackpool as they picked up a rare win against Huddersfield United and kept an even rarer clean sheet as they triumphed 1-0. Robisnon did have a chance to make it 2-0 in the 90th minute but his swerving shot went high and wide of Huddersfield ‘keeper Alex Smithies’ goal. Blackpool stay 18th and are 9 points clear of the relegation zone with that crucial win. Robinson was back in action on Tuesday when he was part of a Blackpool side that travelled to Bolton. Blackpool picked up yet another defeat for the season as they fall towards the relegation zone.

Andre Wisdom

England Under 21 captain Andre Wisdom again played a full 90 minutes for loan side Derby as they beat play-off rivals Nottingham Forest 5-0 at the iPro stadium. He didn’t have a notable game but nonetheless he helped Steve McClaren’s team keep a clean sheet and was part of Billy Davies’ sacking as Forest manager. Derby and Wisdom were back in action on Tuesday when they travelled to Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich. However it didn’t go to plan as they came away with a 2-1 defeat. Derby next play 21st placed Charlton where they should pick up all 3 points.

Ryan McLaughlin

After returning to Liverpool to rebuild his match fitness, Ryan McLaughlin returned to the starting line-up for Barnsley in their 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth. He did play in an unfamiliar right wing role, and will be key in Barnsley’s run-in if they are to avoid relegation. Barnsley then travelled to Reading on Tuesday night where McLaughlin was not in the squad presumably due to injury.

Krisztian Adorjan

Hungarian midfielder Krisztian Adorjan didn’t feature for Groningen as they picked up a surprise 3-1 victory over Vitesse and it is not clear whether he will be in the Groningen squad when the 9th placed side travel to PSV in another tough game for Adorjan’s loan side.

Jordon Ibe

Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe finally made an appearance for Birmingham when he came on as a second half substitute for Lee Novak. Ibe created a chance for Chris Burke in the 70th minute but the angle was too tight for him to score. The 18 year old then had 2 attempts on goal shortly after picking up his first yellow card for his loan side. Birmingham then travelled to struggling Millwall on Tuesday night. Ibe started his first game for his loan side and that decision paid dividends as he opened the scoring with a 20 yard strike in the 3-2 win. He played 86 minutes of the match and will more than likely play a part in Birmingham’s next game against Bournemouth.

Suso

Under-21 starlet Suso returned to the starting XI for Almeria as they beat Real Sociedad on Monday night. Suso played the full 90 minutes in the match and had a couple of shots blocked in the first half. He then was back in action against Valencia when he again played another 90 minutes and was highly influential as Almeria came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2. Overall, the Spaniard had 8 shots on goal and gained much needed praise from pundits watching the game. Almeria next travel to relegation rivals Rayo Vallecano on Sunday and Suso will be hoping to play another 90 minutes.

Fabio Borini

On loan Liverpool forward Fabio Borini has enjoyed a very good season at loan side Sunderland and he again played another 90 minutes as his Sunderland side struggled when they lost 2-0 to Norwich. He did set up a chance for Marcos Alonso before creating a chance of his own. Borini could not play against Liverpool on Wednesday night but will more than likely return to the Sunderland squad when they host West Ham on Monday 31st March.
